Patient care

Once you have been admitted and settled in, your consultant will visit regularly to check your wellbeing and answer any questions that you may have about your treatment. You’ll be cared for by our expert Treatment and careteam of nurses, receptionists, catering and support staff, all of whom are committed to maintaining our extremely high service standards. We want you to enjoy your stay as much as possible at Parkside and we are keen to hear how we can improve your experience. If you have concerns about any aspect of your care, please discuss them with the ward Sister so that we can resolve them quickly.

Physiotherapy services

Specialist physiotherapists work with our consultants and nursing staff to provide pre- and post-treatment services. Patients having major orthopaedic and surgical treatments will routinely require physiotherapy; those preparing for hip or knee replacement will see a physiotherapist prior to assessment. The physio gym and hydrotherapy pool are available to our patients, should they be required.

Other Specialists Services

If your consultant feels it will benefit your recovery, you also have access to a full range of specialist nursing and occupational therapy services. These are of special importance if you have undergone joint replacement, breast or certain types of bowel surgery.

Planning your discharge

Your consultant will agree a discharge date with you. Before you leave the hospital, check that you have:
• Collected any medication you’ll need (we usually provide a week’s supply, and most medicines are free of charge)
• Obtained a Sick Certificate, if required
• Arranged a follow-up appointment with your consultant
• Arranged to see a District Nurse at home, if appropriate
• Collected any money or valuables you handed in for safekeeping
• Completed our Patient Satisfaction Questionnaire, including any suggestions for improvement.
