Specialist care and therapy

Last Updated on Wednesday, 15 March 2017 15:12

Alongside excellent nursing care, as a private inpatient you will have access to other personal specialist care. Thanks to our position in a high-achieving Trust, most specialist care is available 24 hours a day.

Physiotherapy

Patients having major orthopaedic and surgical treatments will routinely require physiotherapy, and those preparing for a hip or knee replacement will need physiotherapy sessions prior to the procedure. Our physio team makes sure function, activity and independence is restored to patients after undergoing surgery that might restrict their movement. They encourage a holistic approach and will consider the patient's work, leisure, and lifestyle while determining their ability to self-manage. If follow-up sessions are required after discharge, our team will assist patients in finding local, private practitioners and/or arranging outpatient appointments. Visits are also available to those with transport issues.

Occupational Therapy

The Occupational Therapy team at Frimley Park Hospital is dedicated to making sure patients will be comfortable and safe when back in their own homes. An OT specialist will initally conduct an interview with a patient to find out how they were coping prior to the hospital stay, and undergo assessments to determine whether or not specialist equipment is needed in the home.

Dietetics

Our dietitians provide dietary and nutritional advice to patients dealing with a variety of conditions, such as diabetes, heart disease, and cystic fibrosis. They work closely with clinical staff and the catering department to ensure that the most suitable diet is adapted for a patient to help them on the road to recovery.

Speech and Language Therapy

Our Speech and Language therapists work with patients that have communicative and/or swallowing disorders, providing diagnosis and advice to patients and clinical staff. They can provide rehabilitation for communication disorders and help the patients and staff communicate effectively.

Pain Management

The Inpatient Pain team is on call to provide advice and diagnosis to patients in any kind of pain. Working with clinical staff, they assist nurses and consultants to make sure patients are comfortable and minimise the risks of future discomfort.

The Trust provides a multitude of services to our inpatients. Should your particular procedure or condition require a certain type of service, your consultant or the nurses will arrange the relevant specialists to see you to speed up your recovery and keep you healthy in the longer term.
