Frimley Park Hospital, the Trust that hosts Parkside, has been rated as one of the safest hospitals in the country in a stringent safety assessment.
Following a rigorous two-day evaluation, the NHS Litigation Authority (NHSLA) confirmed that the Trust achieved compliance with all 50 of the safety standards at level 3 – the highest possible level.
This follows on from the success of the hospital’s maternity unit achieving NHSLA level 3 for maternity services
Frimley Park Hospital is currently believed to be the only trust in the country to achieve accreditation at level 3 for both assessments, and the highest scoring one yet.
The NHSLA underwrites NHS trusts against claims for negligence. Its rating system determines a trusts’ safety level and the premium our organisation pays to cover claims. Maternity units are assessed separately under the Clinical Negligence Scheme for Trusts (CNST), a scheme which is run by the NHSLA.
Achieving compliance with the assessment at level three represents a saving to the Trust of £500,000 in the premium it pays to the NHSLA.
Mary Dunne, Director of Nursing, Quality and Patient Services said: “The safety of our patients is of paramount importance to everyone who works at Frimley Park. Staff work tirelessly to achieve the highest standards of infection control and cleanliness and to provide a secure environment where patients feel safe with their care.
“The NHSLA’s assessment covers a broad range of standards, from clinical records management, staff training, medicines management and blood transfusion to patient information.
“Maintaining our NHSLA level 3 accreditation and achieving the best possible score in this year’s assessment is a fantastic achievement and I’m really proud of everyone involved.
“And most importantly, our local community can be assured that their hospital is doing all it can to provide a first class service.”
The team from the NHSLA measured the Trust against five standards, each of which had 10 criteria which had to be satisfied. Frimley Park scored 10 out of 10 in each of the standards, which included:
* Governance
* Competent and capable work-force
* Safe environment
* Clinical care
* Learning from experience
